Integrated Training -
No one type of training will cover all the needs of the individual.
Imagine that you are the little dot in the training triangle.
As a beginner you stay farther from the center of the triangle as you move from endurance to strength then to power. The reason for this is, that as a beginner, you have to develope each of these systems seperately and progressively .
After you complete the first round of the triangle and have gone through training each of the energy systems you develope into a more well rounded fit individual. You are now capable of training specific to your life's activities.
Example Workout Goals:
GeneralFitness - you want to stay in the center of the triangle with a broad range of training modalities.
Power lifter - you want to stay at the top of the triangle as endurance is less of a factor.
marathon runner - you want to stay in the center but as close to endurance in the triangle as possible
football player - of course this will depend on the demands of your position but in general you would want to stay in the center but as close to power in the triangle as possible
With this diagram it is a little easier to understand that every activity we can do falls within the triangle and no one type of training is seperate from the others as they all have to be developed to some degree in relation to our chosen activities
While this is only a small part of the integrated training paradigm, it is the base from which to build on. I hope this has given you some insight into what integrated training is and has helped to make you aware that you can not train effectively with just one training modality.
